Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We are out-of-network providers. We can supply a superbill after each session, which you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement — reach out and we can walk you through what that typically looks like.

What are your session fees?

Rates vary by therapist and session type. Reach out or book a free consultation and we'll go over current rates and what to expect before you commit to anything.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced-fee sessions?

It is part of Brooklyn Therapy Services' ethos to provide affordable mental health services to patients. We keep a number of sliding scale spots open. Just mention it during your consultation and we'll talk through what makes sense.

How do I schedule my first session?

Just fill out the form on this site to start with a free 15-minute consultation. We will talk through what you are looking for and get you matched with a therapist from there.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You do not need a crisis or a diagnosis to start. If something is weighing on you, feels stuck, or you simply want support thinking it through, that is reason enough.

What's the difference between individual and couples therapy?

Individual therapy is one-on-one, focused entirely on you. Couples therapy brings both partners into the room together, focused on the relationship. Many clients do one, the other, or both at different points.

Do you offer both in-person and online sessions?

Yes. We see clients in person in Brooklyn and online for anyone located anywhere in New York, and many clients move between the two depending on their week.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We ask for at least 24 hours notice when possible so the time can be offered to another client. Life happens — talk to your therapist directly if something comes up last-minute.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions any licensed therapist follows (risk of harm to yourself or others, for example). We will walk through the specifics of confidentiality in your first session.

Can I switch therapists if it is not the right fit?

Yes. Fit matters more than momentum — if it is not clicking, tell us and we will help you find a better match on our team.
